Human beings are hard-wired to constantly optimize our experiences to match an imaginary ideal.
We seek what we don’t have, and more of what we already have.
But the universe is a strange place and we often fall short to achieve our goals.
Our optimal experience keeps evading us.
For many of us, this is cause for much despair. It is because we tend to overlook the virtue of being good in exchange for our never-ending quest for perfection.
One could argue that this constant need to seek a better, more exciting version of reality (a.k.a perfection) is what drives human creativity, and rightfully so.
But when seeking a perfect destination overwhelms our ability to appreciate the journey, we stop being happy and content.
Make sure you reflect on your journey every once in a while.
Make sure you appreciate yourself for any progress you made, no matter how small.
Make sure you remind yourself that not being perfect is alright and the key is to iterate over what is good.
